How accurate was the Saving Private Ryan beach-landing scene?

im not an expert or anything but those turrets had a very clear view of the soldiers and considering the time they remained at the beach when tom hanks had a kind of a shock until he could give the orders they would be far more casualties and maybe no survivors in real life
