Creeper farms are very useful to build a TNT underground pillar as a spine of your mining place.

Make a coco bean farm with redstone.
You put pistons on the top and bottom of the wood and it shakes it for you, easy.

Otherwise, find a dungeon spawner and use lava to kill whatever comes out of it, sit there and take all the XP you want from it (maybe use a fire breathing potion if you're not good around lava).

Spam feed your animals until they breed a lot and just kill em. Easy, non aggressive XP.

You can make golem farms by using a really tall building that drops them to their death and farm the XP at the bottom. You'd have to look up how to make it though, it's been so long that I don't remember how *exactly* but it is possible. You need redstone and droppers for it.

Definitely have an enderman farm. They are very good exp and ender pearls are very good mobility later on in the game.
