MAL:
Quote:Seika High School, once an all-boys school notorious for its wild students and for generally being a terrifying place for girls, has recently become a co-ed school. With the female population still a minority and living in fear of the over-the-top antics of the males, Misaki Ayuzawa takes it into her own hands to reform the school and allow the girls to feel safe in the rough environment.
Training, studying and even becoming the first female student council president of the school, Misaki has gained a reputation among the male students body as an uptight boy-hating dictator and as a shining hope for the teachers and fellow female students. However, despite her tough-as-nails appearance, she secretly works part-time at a maid cafe in order to support her family. Unfortunately, her hard-earned reputation is threatened when the popular, attractive, and somewhat impassive Usui Takumi takes an interest in her after discovering her in a maid uniform after school.
The story isn't too unique. Your typical romantic school comedy with your typical characters. The most popular boy and most popular girl (in their own ways) who are the top of their school in grades and pretty much everything. The girl having a secret, in which the guy promises to keep and uses it to get closer to her. But that also makes them amazing too. It is a decent length of 26 episodes, in which you will be taken through some clever and simple comedy that will have you laughing to parts in which you want to get mad and even almost cry with the drama they throw into the mix. Makes for a decent story, plot may be simple but it makes it work so well.
The ending wrapped the story up perfectly, in my opinion. You won't feel the strong need of "WHY, WHAT, HOW?" But in my opinion, you will be happy if you put yourself in the character's shoes while watching it. A romance/drama lover's ideal ending for the most part.
Characters 9/10
The characters are actually developed pretty well. In some parts they DO get repetitive but it eventually flows into the plot. Adding for the excitement and makes you want to see what will happen next. Now, let's get to the main cast...
Misaki Ayuzawa
Lives with her mother and sister. Is the school council president and really wants to make the school more female oriented, in which she takes it all out on all the males in the school. Naming her basically a devil president when she gets mad at what the guys do. Always beating them, etc. Having them all scared of her, and in the same time making her a target for others. Her secret is that she needs to help pay her father's debt he left with them by working at a maid cafe. A funny character that you can just love, there isn't anything I didn't like about her. She makes the show, along with her male counterpart.
Takumi Usui
The most popular guy at school. He is the counterpart of Misaki. Smart, athletic and all around awesome. He takes an interest to Misaki after rejecting girl after girl from the school. He eventually learns her secret about working at the maid cafe and promises to hold the secret. He then falls in love with her in this time after watching over her and protecting her, in which Misaki thinks of him just harassing her. Typical, usually. But at the same time makes the show so great, both the main characters make the show what it is, without them it would be rather lame.
Suzuna Ayuzawa
Misaki's younger sister. She is a real penny pincher. She always is looking through the paper for coupons to help her family save money and goes out for "big" sales. She rarely shows little to no emotion and is pretty funny. I thought it was worth to mention her, even if she didn't have a huge part in the show. She had her moments in which made me laugh.
The other characters, such as the "3 stooges" along with the other cast were pretty well developed, especially for supporting characters. There wasn't a character I didn't hate with a huge passion (well maybe the other school council president, but he did a good job playing the bad guy.) They each had a part in the plot, in one way or another and made the anime enjoyable to watch. I could watch it over again and still be in love with it.
Sound 8/10
The sound was nice. I enjoyed the opening and ending song for this anime. I usually skip a lot of the opening songs unless I REALLY like them. I actually liked this one, so I usually didn't skip it and listened to it fully. Next we have the music they used in each situation and I think they did a good job, with the sounds they put towards the comedy and drama scenes. Really got you in the same mood in which they were portraying.
Art 8.5/10
The art was great. How they made their faces when they did the famous *Stareeee* face and just the general faces they made when they were trying to make the scene more funny, which worked well. Made me laugh all the time when they were doing that.
Then they put more effort into the art when they were in the serious situations, so combining both those art styles made this anime pretty fresh. Was nice to look at as you followed the story/plot. Kudos to the staff team for this one. I enjoyed it a lot, due to that.
Overall 9/10
This anime was overall great. I enjoyed it a lot, as I said. Everything I pointed out above made this one of my top 10 romance/comedy anime. I really wish they would make some sort of another season or even an OVA. They do have side stories out, which were alright but I crave more. It deserves more love and maybe one day that will happen (likely not since it's already 4 years old.) I strongly suggest this anime to any people who love romance/comedies. You will laugh, get the feels and enjoy it as much as I did I think.
