Playing Garry's mod? It's only 10 dollars and you can basically spend over 1000 hours on that single game.

I would recommend video games funny enough. The money needed to build a proper PC or console is chump change compared to other hobbies where you are expected spend to spend 500+ dollars frequently.

If you already have video games as a hobby, try something you would want to work as in the future. Like coding, video editing, filming etc.

Mountain bike is a good one. Better if you know where you can find a river to swim.
Call a friend and get a ride!

I love to play video games (PC and console) but building a good PC for gaming is expensive!
If you want low price gaming, go for console!

I would suggest Garry's Mod; it is only about $10 and it can give you hundreds of hours worth of fun. Endless amounts of things you can do and create.

I have three that cost me nothing and are extremely helpful:
Walking out and about in nature -exercise, and the chance to think
Listening to podcasts - I listen a a mix of political, educational and comedy podcast - often combined with a walk.
Reading - I read a lot of stuff, often borrowing books from the library or free ebook repositories.

Also lots of people do some gardening, but personally it's not for me.

i try and pick hobbies that are removed from my day job or online activities

I recommend getting into Lua for Garry's Mod, All you need to get is garry's mod and a software like Visual Studio Code or Sublime and some tutorials. That and map making for any source game.
