I think many people have already seen the movie Contagion? Very similar to the situation in reality. And I can also recommend the novel Inferno by D. Brown .., the situation is also similar, but specific reasons for the decrease in population are described.

Everyone was busy, so I went to the movie alone & I enjoyd it
