What is a Dump?

Sorry for my ignorance guys, but what is a Dump? Have been seeing in different forums, yet I dont understand it. Thanks in advance

It's also a term used for a cache of data that has been released, usually from a hack. If I had a dump of netflix accounts, it would be a combolist of the usernames and passwords for various netflix users; typically in the hundreds or thousands.
