People always say we need more education rather than police but when it comes to low income neighborhoods, school isn't part of their culture. As a black man, I can tell you for fact that my family would not care if I finished high school or not as long as I am bringing in money, legitimately or illegitimately. School isn't even secondary. It's a cultural issue, not a government issue.

I'd prefer to disarm the police as a precursor to total disarmament of the US. Guns do nothing but empower criminals and act as a threat to democracy. They are actually very rarely used in defense when compared to the immense amount of social destabilization they cause. Of course, gun nuts have their own set of fake research they'll bring up.

Defund the police is a silly way to say police needs more accountability. That's really what's needed. Make them accountable and good things will follow.

I think the rhetoric surrounding the "defund" thing has been cancerous. I get the whole talking point about "oh it's just diverting money into other areas to lighten the load" etc etc. But every single way that we would have better outcomes from any of the police forces requires spending MORE money and MORE energy there. I don't think many people understand the nuance behind a situation/topic like this and there is no easy solution. I think police have an insanely important role in society, and deserve to have excellent pay and benefits. But they also should be held to THE most rigorous standards imaginable. Make the job so attractive that Cops can be replaced by quality replacements quickly and easily. Remove the link between the DA and the Police. The police should be reviewed by an entity that has NO connection to their normal day to day. (essentially like a better version of internal affairs) But I admit I'm also talking out of my ass as I've never been involved in criminal justice in any capacity. But I don't think paying the police less will solve anything. Pay them MORE, and be more strict with regulations. Most cops ARE good cops, but this rhetoric has probably made more good cops wonder "what's the fucking point?"

I definitely think funds should be directed to programs focused on the mental health of police, and community integration. Clearly, police in some places have lost sense of community...

defunding the police is definately a bad move. whos gonna come to your break in and help, whos gonna arrest the genuine bad guys? without police the world would be a horrible place.

You can defund the police, or start purging them of corruption both would work in a way

Having the dumbest guy from your high school show up to mental health incidents with a gun and baton isn't a good idea

Defunding the police is a right thing to an extend really. I just hope it works in the US so that they got less police brutality going on

Defunding the police is fine as long as we reduce gun control laws and increase viable self defense laws by including property rights as well. Can't have one but not the other!
