That can be from a few different things. To many redirects etc.

Yea with wordpress it can be from a number of things. To many redirects, bad plugin not enough memory etc.

Normally on lower end hosting plans running a plugin like jetpack will cause this issue

No problem. My fault. I just find it strange that the other errors redirect ok with the same info in the .conf file, but the 500 error ignores the redirect.
