Andrei Tarkovsky:Before defining art, or any concept, we must answer a far broader question: What's the meaning of man's life on Earth? Maybe we are here to enhance ourselves spiritually. If our life tends to this spiritual enrichment, then art is a means to get there. This, of course, is in accordance with my definition of life. Art should help man in this process. Some say that art helps man to know the world like any other intellectual activity. I don't believe in this possibility of knowing, I am almost an Agnostic. Knowledge distracts us from our main purpose in life. The more we know, the less we know: getting deeper, our horizon becomes narrower. Art enriches man's own spiritual capabilities and he can then rise above himself to use what we call 'free will'.

Art is life. Life is art. Make sure that you do enough for people to always remember you with deep emotion every single time. The earth is your canvas. Sad part is that you will never receive the feedback once you are 6 feet under.

Art is the physical manifestation of something that resonates so deeply in the soul of the artist that words can never do it justice. In other words, its a feeling about life.

Art is whatever the individual determines it to be as long as that thing was created by another human. Something that is thought provoking and elicits some kind of reaction to that particular person.

My previous art professor had a very good definition for it, IMO it's a great place to start interpreting your own feelings/implications about art. It was: "Art is the synthesis of techniques, many or few, to create a meaningful whole that is aesthetically, emotionally, or entertainingly pleasing for the spectator".

It's my go to definition for the topic, mainly because it's so encompassing of all art forms, even things like video games. It still leaves a lot of room for subjective interpretation as well.

Art is a diverse range of human activities involving creative imagination to express technical proficiency, beauty, emotional power, or conceptual ideas.

I would say art is whatever you make it to be. Art is a very diverse range of ideas, from performance to paint on a canvas, to clothes. The nuance of what art is allows for creativity in any medium.

What are we without creativity? We'd have no culture. We'd just be robots. As art is subjective (though I'm not so sure about taste imo lol) I think whatever conjures something deep inside someone's psyche that effects them, even on, or especially on a subconscious level, it is art. It doesn't need to be strictly intellectual or emotional. A balance between both is perhaps the best kind. A multidimensional kind. I feel sorry for those who have no appreciation for abstract thinking because that's the most human part of us.
