Cross platform in Deep Rock Galactic

Bought the game on steam so I can play with my friend on PS4 but Steam and PS4 are not cross platformed? Only Xbox and Microsoft. Is there cross platform or is it just for Xbox and Microsoft and if so why not for steam and PS4?
