fdigl, the selfish part of your advice was that you offered him a link to an otherwise outdated website that has far better alternatives with no direction and basically saying to learn this and leave the site alone. This is a request thread, and he has every right to request code or a plugin.

True, you're right in the sense that I took the lazy way and gave him the generic answer. While your points are both valid and reasonable, I still stand in the stance that he would still be better off learning how to code properly. Not only would it be better in the long run, but it's a beneficial skill that could and probably would serve him well. Although, I don't see how my response was selfish. I could easily tell him to piss off, but instead I'd at least try to point him in some form of direction.

Yeah fuck doing anything yourself to be honest. You can just get plugins and be a make-believe coder yourself.
I'm sure running a forum with no knowledge on design or scripting languages would be a good idea. Not to mention not putting enough effort to research.

Spoonfeeding is the way to go in 2016.

I'm not saying he shouldn't learn the basics. In fact, I encourage it. However, not everyone who wants to run a forum needs to learn about designing, in the same way not every gamer needs to learn how to make a game.

I don't feel like that analogy works specifically in that case. It would make sense if it was "not everyone who frequents a forum needs to learn about designing..." as the wordgamer implies that the subject in question is anend user. I'm not saying he needs to learn design by any means. There's a specific aspect of creative talent needed to make it in that field and I don't want to impose that sort of pressure. I'm pushing towards learning basic functions and applying them towards things the tutorials don't tell you to do. Why buy a piano if you aren't going to learn how to play it? It's simple enough if you put the time and effort into it, and it's not like you have to write your own pieces.
