9x - 18y = 36

I have to solve for Y and need to show my work.

Two variables require two equations to solve them. There is only one given. Perhaps you need to put random values of x and then find the values of y. E.g, put 1,2,3,4,5 in place of x and then find the value of y for each of them.

Example:

9x - 18y = 36
Let x = 2
9*2 - 18y = 36
-18y = 36 - 18
-18y = 18
-y = 1
y = -1

9x6 = 54
54-18 = 36

9x = 9x6
18y = 18x1

y = 1
x = 6

Do you have the value of X? Or a second equation so we know the value of X? Because to solve this indefinitely it has 2 variables as Sozin said, however this could be an equation question which needs two equations so we can solve the value of X and Y to find the one you want.
