Well, I'm doing this because I want to get into Network Administration. Things with Servers/Computers.

Well My thoughts were more on power consumption in your home, If you're learning network ADMIN, then having a home server is much more important since if you mess up, you can learn how to fix your mistake at home.

What about the connection tho? Are you sure you will be able to afford the internet service provider payments etc?

Why can't you just set up a proper NAS server in your home and run a dedi? The NAS server would teach you a thing or two about Networking and the dedi... well for use.

I don't recommend buying a home hosting device, unless you want to start something big. If it's just for some files or game servers go for the renting ones, you save lot of money. But if you want to start something big, like a big server, along with teamspeak, hosting files, web hosting, etc, and if you have the budget, then go ahead. Don't forget that after the big investment, you still have a monthly fee for the electricity costs of your house.

My power should be fine. It's only a 1U server. It shouldn't draw a lot of power.

That's what I'm going for. I want to be unique, and something really no one has done before. What kind of budget will I be looking at for this? I know the server cost and power, but what about Internet? What Speeds should I do if I'd host a basic Forums, Game Server, and maybe a TeamSpeak?
