When did Bitcoins become popular ?

I am currently new to this and would like to know when they became so popular.

Most people I personally talked to didn't know about it until about 2015, and even they they didn't really know exactly what it was. Just that it was some sort of currency.

it got popular once it hit like 4000$ thats when i saw a lot of stuff about it i believe

Probably like 2016 or so, It has risen to 7100$ today so yeah, I have a bit of BTC back from 2014 hehe

Between 2013 and 2014 it became a known means of transacting online but the dark web is what made cryptocurrency like btc popular
