Differences between WWII and WaW?

What are the differences between World War 2 and World At War? Also, do any of the characters from Cod5 show up in WW2?

I havent seen any characters from CodWaW (even in zombies). This is because it isnt WaW2. The games may tell storys about the same war but they are not directly related. Even the weapons in both games are different because of the damage they do.
