If you want a quality car that's still cheap i'd go for a bmw / audi, otherwise go some good old opel

Kia usually have cars that are cheap and give the most value, which means that you can get a cheap and pretty freaking good car for the price from Kia.

I got these golf 4 cabrio as first car. then 3 BMWs - they are not more reliable and not cheaper - but lot more fun

Any car about 10 years old is a good first car. Look for cars in the mileage range of 120k-150k with no serious issues. Make sure to keep up on oil changes and check up on fluids and it should run like a beaut!
