I have a shitty quad core amd cpu 3.5ghz, 12 gigs of ram, and a gtx 1060 6gigs. I'm able to play most new games on max 1080p with over 30fps. Before I had 8 gigs of ram and a gtx 960, but it still did fine med-high 1080p. I've had this PC for many years.

Do you guys upgrade every year or wait a couple years?

I legit used to try and run overwatch on a pentium, no video card, and 4 gigs ram. It was pure hell.

I finally decided to upgrade and hopefully I won't have to upgrade for a long time. I'm running an i5 7600, A GTX 1050, and 16GB DDR4

Seeing as these are my specs and my pc is over 5 years old.. I'd say upgrade when you notice an immediate change it graphic quality and system performance. I can still run games like CSGO at 180 fps so I'm not really in need of upgrading tbh. But it's all personal preference. If you have the money, go for it.

Like many people stated above; that's not even old.... O.o like yeah an amd FX 4k series is nothing compared to an AMD Threadripper but these new CPUs are utter overkill for just about anything besides content creation and editing. Hell my laptop I use really rarely has an Intel Core 2 Duo. To answer your question though... I just slowly upgrade parts as I see it fit or necessary. I've been running an AMD FX8350 CPU for over a year and don't really see enough of a reason to upgrade anytime soon for what I do. I have an EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 SSC 6GB and run every game I play on ultra 1080p settings at well over 144fps to feed my monitor's refresh rate. (Also note I only have 8GB of DDR3 RAM and run into zero issues with the amount)

I've upgraded my GPU periodically throughout the year. Once the new year comes around, however, I plan on upgrading the ram, mobo, storage, and case.
