No, it's a stupid thing to do and can really upset someone.

Tried to return 3 pictures i was brought for christmas, no receipt, couldn't find them stocked.... shop assistant said could only refund what value they scanned through at.... 30pence... apparently these wee 120 worth of pictures.... I then either had to keep them, take the 30p or be honest with the giver... you can be assured they took them back themselves.

Well Of Course Not! What matters is the intention and if they took their time to buy you something then you should feel special, whether you liked what they got you or not.
