Are you thinking about something like iptables on UNIX system to protect yourself ? There are too much DDoS Attack especially through NTP Server and isn't difficult to prevent.

This is more clever than DDoS too Wink

There are tons of different ddos methods. Most commonely there is flooding methods that can be restricted with a simple access list. He was properly hit with a flood attack most likely a ICMP flood
"Because he didn't hide his IP i am sure this is what he would be using common easy to find software can do that." Also since it's not a person that got physical access to the hardware means layer 7 ddos attacks is not taken in as a factor here.

So properly a layer 3 or layer 4 ddos attack that could be restricted with some access list, some ip restrictions, response restrictions and yada yada.

When you think about it Ddos protection is acutally really simple unless it's a physical layer attack, that is when it gets tricky.

Trust me, if the guy doesn't have a dynamic IP adress, to calm him literally FOREVER, just DDOS him for one day straight. I'm not talking about a few hours, I'm talking about setting up the ddosing process to last for 24 hours straight.

Most peoples that are "booting" small servers on Minecraft, GMod or such games are kids in the 10 to 15 years old range, which means they live at their parents home. Boot them for a long time ESPECIALLY during weekends, the dude will be desperate to get internet back.
