I agree, FileZilla is a good program.

What you need:
Server IP Address
Username
Password

You also need to know the directory that the files are in which you want to upload or edit.

You have to use some kind of FTP client (filezila is one of the best in my opinion)

then you need:
ftp url (most of the times starts with ftp.*, something like ftp.mydomain.com)
username (find it in control panel or use same as hosting)
pass (in some cases you need to create ftp account pass in user panel)

then simply connect to ftp using filkzilla and navigate inner directories to public_html (this one is main dir of your website)

To establish an FTP connection. To make an FTP connection you can use a standard Web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, etc.) or an FTP Client (such as FileZilla, Cyberduck or Transmit) uploading/downloading a file is really easy.
To transfer a file with FTP you need to have an FTP account

Try filezilla or cyberduck, I really like the UI of cyberduck though.

FileZilla is probably your best option for messing with FTP because of it easy to use and its fast in general

Wednesday is hump day, but has anyone asked the camel if hes happy about it?
Cats are good pets, for they are clean and are not noisy.
He said he was not there yesterday; however, many people saw him there.

You need a FTP client as like FileZilla, then log in with host user name, password and port then connect your FTP. It is simple
