I kind of just got a tablet. You can see colored diagrams with tablet but not on the kindle. If it is purely for reading however, then a Kindle is an excellent device.

absolutely get a kindle... best way to read (unless you own the hardcover copy ) , battery for weeks, and easy on the eye

I have an original kindle.

Pros:
-supports all major ebook formats (pdf, epub, etc.)
-battery lasts like two years
-simple microusb connection.

Cons:
-no backlight
-sometimes book formatting is weird or text is too small to read with just a PDF.
-no touchscreen to zoom with n stuff. all done with the buttons.

Kinda wanna get myself a paperwhite or something, would be nice but I guess I don't really need it that bad if my current one still works (and will probably work forever, built like a brick.)
