I heard that if you go to gmodstore and actually buy the script, you get given: The script, any needed support and all future updates. Crazy, I know

Crazy we all know that'd be common sense but crazy that you post it on a leaking based site (not just leaking based, but in this situation at least).

I'm sorry Mister creator of the script. Don't be mad because people are trying to leak your script. This is a forum resource site, don't complain what you stepped into. Some people are trying to start a Garry's Mod server with a low budget and isn't trying to go all out. Not everyone has the money for everything. Put yourself in other people's shoes, don't just think about you. I understand you're trying to make money, but people are already losing money from buying the host, "Yes I know it's life, you lose some you gain some."

Hahaha, I once too was starting out. This was back when gmodstore still banned people for using leaks. I learned the hard way that regardless of "budget", you should still respect the time and effort that people have put into their addons(that you are profiting from). If you're not willing to invest money into a server, don't start a server.

My post wasn't to start drama, but rather an attempt to enforce the same realization for others that I was given 3 years ago. The realization of devs also being people too, who invest time and money into their work, and for that reason, you should have enough respect to pay for their work if you're going to use it.

I can't force you to purchase my addon, and if you use a leak, you use a leak. I'm not going to enforce a DRM or anything like that because I feel that it's an unneeded extreme. I just want people to respect devs and their hard work.

Just my opinion, but who gives a fuck anyways right?

People do respect the Developers. People who are retarded fucks and use scripts their whole time of hosting are dumb. Leaks are temporary and shouldn't be used anymore once you can buy them. We know that Devs are people. But spending $5-$10 on code that they could just spend that on something else on a server that might die. When buying GMod addons, you're taking a risk of wasting money on your server not being successful and probably wasted $20-$100 dollars on scripts for a server and it ended up going unsuccessfully. Yes, I understand if it's a dollar or two then that's plain selfish, but anything out of extraordinary and ridiculous everyone has a budget, if you feel like you're being disrespected because you're leaks are being leaked than put DRM. People also use leaks to get addons that were not obtained anymore. Just look at it, $9 for a hud that can be drawn cheaper? It's like saying don't go to the movies if you're on a budget because the snacks are expensive, and bringing your snacks is disrespectful. Obtaining leaks doesn't mean users are going to 100% keep them. Some are using leaks to see if the script is even worth purchasing, GModstorerefund system is pretty crazy and the fact that you can't get a refund because you can still put the file on your desktop and still refund. I lost $5 on a broken script and the developer of the script was lazy enough to communicatewith me. People need budgets to maintain their spending. We all have different opinions because you're a content creator and I'm just a buyer. I still buy scripts from GModstore, I respect the content creators time and hard work they put into this to make money but I do not support the fact that some people are against leaks. I wasn't either trying to cause drama I was trying to point out a few reasons why people use leaks. Remember it's an opinion, but who gives a fuck anyways right?

Having hearing out some of your arguments, you hold some strong and valid points.

I 100% understand the argument of "you're taking a big risk buying addons on a server that may never profit". It's a ballsy move to drop large amounts of money on something that may never go anywhere. But seeing it from thepoint of view of both a creator and consumer it's a funnyone. From the view of a creator, I see it as kind of selfish and disrespectful. You should be willing to take the risk if you want a successful server. However on the view of a consumer, I fully agree that it's a scary thing and it's just not something you really wanna do, some addons can be $10+ and it's a lot to ask for some entities on a gmod server (Not to kiss my own ass but that's the reason I price my work so long, I understand that it's a lot to ask for gmod addons. Although that has resulted in my work being easy to obtain through leaks.).
And that leads intohow I also agree that once you can, you should convert to paid legit versions of the scripts. Not only is it respectful, it's also a lot more secure.

I use to think that not being able to refund scripts because I could still use the script was pretty stupid too. But once I started selling work my view changed. I've been played with so much it's insane. Some people are real assholes. I've had people ask to transfer script ownership to another account to then leak it. I've had people using leaks add me on steam for support for me the help them and then them tell me "Well, I'm using a leak lol" and block me. There's just no trust factor in this market and as a result it's not worth risking a refund for them to just backstab you. I'm sure you personally would be good to your word, but not everyone is.
Although, I see your point on broken scripts not being refunded. Although, I'm pretty sure that gmodstore themselves have refunded people a few time on inactive devs. (Don't hold me to that) I can't talk much on that topic because I've never had anything like that happen personally.

I'll never convert to a DRM, my scripts are cheap enough that "most" people are willing to buy them if they really want them. Many of your arguments are strong points and I see why people use leaks. But being on the other side of it also allows me to see the negatives.
