So over the past few days here, more importantly today, I have noticed a sharp increase in leechers.

Now this really pisses me off, seeing blank threads, empty replies and sentences that just don't make sense all over my threads.

These people do not deserve to be here, they lower the quality of the threads and the forum and just generally piss the great community members here off.

Worst of all by the time it gets noticed they have their 15 posts to get the stuff they came here to leech, I notice these people within the first 3 posts they do as I am very active here and report immediately but in most cases by the time the report is seen by the awesome yet busy mods here. again they get what they want.

What we can do.

so yes we cannot ban members as we are not moderators but we can help cut this shit out. If you see a leecher, please report straight away so we can maintain the high quality community we have here.

When a member introduces them selves, say hi. make them aware of the rules posts and the support thread, this will ease so much tension on staff. Sometimes new members don't read the rules, then they get reported, then they get banned, then they appeal the ban claiming they didn't know and then they get unbanned.

This takes up staff time and if they are made aware of this it can all be reduced!

*also make sure new contributors hide content, super important to prevent leechers, I do run through this with at least 5 new members a day.

These "what we can do" steps are obvious.. We will not solve this problem with these steps.

I admit they are obvious. but its more about raising awareness and pulling together to maintain the standards here, and despite being obvious people don't do the steps, it won't solve the problem know but it can help portray the image that we do not fuck around here and also as stated, free up some mod time so they can do the more important things on forum.

I'm starting here this week, trying to not be a leecher but all you said is obvious.

Well the fact you are still here after a week is a good sign at not being a leecher Smile

Yeah I know it's obvious but some people just don't get it yaknow

Yeah some of my threads also have a few banned leechers, kinda sucks imo.
Perhaps up the required amount of posts + make it so you have to wait a while between posts when you have lower than ? post count.
This way you could mainpulate it so it'd take min for example 60 minutes for someone to reach min post count to unlock something.

During this amount of time the user would probably get reported a bunch of times and mods might be able to get him banned.

This is an interesting idea, however I am not sure it would work and would deter some users away from the forum and we want want to welcome them with open arms.

However maybe sticking to the 15 post limit but enabling a 30 minute time frame after signup where they cannot download as being a fresh account?

Maybe this will at least keep the post quality up

There will always be leechers but luckily there is Cuddles who does most of the work banning leechers, spammers etc. but there's always a couple who slip through the cracks but like you said reporting them helps a great deal.
