Never buy accounts that can be easily recovered from Steam or Blizzard accounts. Also, never go first and always use a middleman even if the guy looks legit. The thing that gets people scammed is thinking the other person is a good guy and will never scam.

For Steam Trading
The easiest way that I avoid scamming is by not trading at all. I don't really care about trading items with other people, it's never really mattered to me. There are some people who still approach me though with the intent to scam me. So here are some tips,
- Don't click any links provided by the person proposing the trade. (Unless you are 100% sure they are trustworthy)
- If you go through with the trade, and they request a third party for the trade, don't bother.
- There are a lot of spam bots that send incites to everyone that has an inventory in a specific game. So don't add anyone you don't know well.

I do not know why it is marked funny but simply follow 1 thing and you will be fine. Do not trust anybody and if really necessary to trust somebody i would just recommend using a escrow service or a middleman.

A couple of random tips that must be obvious for most people but I hope it helps someone anyway:
- Use escrow for larger transactions.
- When paying through Paypal, if seller asks you send as gift/friends and family, don't go ahead with the transaction, you won't be able to raise a claim with Paypal later.
