So I was feeling overwatch yesterday and decided to jump into a quick play match cus why not? I ended up seeing this blank 1 at the top right and had no clue what it was, and neither did any of my teammates. After playing the game I got 3 "endorsements" 2 for being a good teammates and one for playing well.
So what are these supposed to do exactly. I think I get why you would endorse someone, but I don't get the purpose for it.
(Also someone who seemed to have a lot of endorsements was really toxic and kept yelling at me when I killed them, calling me shit for flanking when they didn't check their flanks. So..)
It's pretty much the opposite of reporting someone. They're taking the classic psychological analytic approach, where it is generally better to reinforce positively than to reinforce negatively. Basically, doggy like treats but doggy no like spanking.
they added endorsements to encourage non-toxic and positive play. I think I read somewhere that those who maintain a good level get rewarded eventually.
League had the same thing when players attacked them that the community is too toxic, they made a system where teammates can distribute some sorta positive encouragement and if you got a lot of "friendly" or "teamwork" points it would be featured on your avatar on the loading screen.
Basically the rep system on nbb but less numbers and more words. Cool concept but not many people cared / care.
By the way, it sounds like it's like the Honor system in League of Legends. You basically give an "honor" to a teammate for they can feel like they did something good for not being toxic.

Yet it still remains one of the most toxic games to exist
