Or it could be where you can't access the Market, leaks etc until you upload an avatar or something along those lines. Until you customize your profile enough you won't be able to access certain sections of the forum.

Or to be really cheap you should force them to actually communicate with members of the forum before downloading anything at all Tongue

I have been thinking about something relating to this for a while now. Something which should reduce the spam like you've said here.

All it seems to be is "thanks sir" "thanks... will download now" and it's just pure spam like I've never seen before. Fair enough the majority of us do look at increasing our post count to download or view something but there's only a percentage that will actually construct decent, readable and debatable posts.

A long time ago I had a..."harsh" approach. All new members are allowed access to a curtain forum, like a quarantine (I know it sounds terrible). Once "verified", they will unlock the other forum section. So it's pretty harsh yeah.

It's a good idea but with how many other forums there are like this, it's very easy for them to just choose somewhere else to leech from. I think there needs to be techniques to draw them in and choose this community, then hopefully they stick around and contribute.

Exactly this, but with less intent I guess? I'm working the kinks out in my idea before going all out on it.

sounds like a hard thing to implement but it does sound like a good idea
BETTER TELL PEOPLE TO CHANGE PICS SO WE CAN SEE THEM THO,
because then it'll look very strange to outsiders who don't know whats going on

Let the leechers leech, they're the reason why such forums have traffic.
Also, a terrible idea IMO new threads will come up really slow in the side panel if this gets implemented

I would agree with the idea of filtering out leechers posts in the latest activity feed but I wouldn't agree on weeding out users who don't upload avatars.

Edit: But I won't filter threads that were created by leechers. If actual users post on them that's fine with me too.

That would just work against us, aka user registrations dropping harder than the Hiroshima bomb.

Agree on this one buddy. It makes the forum cleaner but I doubt it would stop the leechers.
