Hey there,
You're not going to be able to get Bitcoin "for cheap" anywhere unless you buy it in small fractions. At the time of writing this post, Bitcoin is currently being traded at $3,618. You can check the value of Bitcoin at the following sites:
http://preev.com/- Preev is a pretty basic site that shows you the currently value of Bitcoin as well as Litecoin and Dogecoin. Another cool feature with this site is the fact that you can put in a custom amount in BTC or USD and it will tell you what it is worth.
https://bitcoinwisdom.com/- BitcoinWisdom is an incredibly useful site because it includes historical data, volume, change rates, as well as value in other currencies such as the Euro or CAD.

If you're looking to get a little more in-depth with Cryptocurrencies, check outhttps://coinmarketcap.com/. Coinmarketcap provides a list of the top 100 traded currencies by volume as well as historical data, so this could be quite useful if you know how to utilize the data properly.

As far as what Bitcoin is, Bitcoin is"a type of digital currency in which a record of transactions is maintained and new units of currency are generated by the computational solution of mathematical problems, and which operates independently of a central bank."- Google Definition

You can purchase BTC from sites like Coinbase or LocalBitcoins, or find someone that is willing to sell privately via PayPal or some other sort of transaction.

Making money with Bitcoin is quite difficult right now unless you have some decent money to start with. Realistically the only way you will earn with Bitcoin at the moment is via referral programs on particular Bitcoin/Cryptocurrency sites, or by investing successfully.
