For ideas, I think it would be cool to have secret rooms, and a teleport spawn. So when players spawn, they're surrounded by teleporters that will lead to different places all over the map.
As for improvements, if no_draw isn't applied to faces of walls and floors that are not visible to the player, you should add the no_draw texture to further increase map optimisation.

Pretty solid idea actually, almost like a skybox then have trigger areas with images of where on the map it'll take you. I do like that actually.

It's been a really long time since I have done any sort of mapping, but back when I did get my feet wet, you used to be able to use cameras and live images from those cameras. I read something, somewhere,though, that it's a broken feature now, and that the camera is limited to 2 or something. Just make sure you integrate your custom textures when you publish.

Yeah, don't worry I've been caught out a few times aha, I hate using VIDE though tbh, it just sucks.
