It's always C/C++, Java, or Python.

Generally the one you REALLY should learn is java. Very useful and powerful. Python is good but not a language too learn until you learn a few others first (Unless you really like a challenge!).

to learn basic of algorithmic, python is fantastic, because when i'm writing pseudo-code, i'm in fact writing some python.
to give at least one "cons", the data structure in python are too much powerfull and permissive.
that can leadsome beginners to huge misconception of what we are calling an "array" for example.
