So Defunding Police subject has been huge in USA. A lot of people support and at the same time a lot do not.

What does it mean to defund the police?
It is stated as "Defunding the police doesn't necessarily mean that all funding would be taken away from the department, but some funds would be divested from the department and invested in other programs.". (source)

Is this something you see it going at or do you think they will get rid of the police? If they get rid of the police then who takes over?

Defund the police and redirect funds into giving people in poor communities better education and better overall care to reduce crime, thereby needing less cops

Well... if you think that more underpaid and more overworked police officers will help defeat the systemic police brutality then go ahead. The thing is that the entry barrier for becoming a cop should be higher. Make police school longer, make stricter entry exams, make more education programs to combat ancient believes.

cops dont need to be called to every situation, things like wellness checks and other issues should be dealt with people trained for it. cops aren't trained for shit lol

a lot of mediocre high school kids becoming cops instead of going to universities. it's a recipe for disaster.

The left always hated police because it's an obstacle to their authoritarian plans, but what is happening in the US is different. It's about creating chaos and demagoguery.

The cites who have cut police funding and tied the cops hands are having record crime. The bad cops need to be punished, like the cop who held his knee on Floyd's neck should get life in prison. We don't get rid of doctors when one because of being impaired hurts someone. I know I want cops available when you have to call 911.

It always kind of boggles my mind, how people can actually look at stats of how many police encounters there are, and how many of them actually get violent to the point of shooting, and still come up with this idea that defunding the police is a good idea. And as Txheat24 said, have a look at those cities now. Record crime.

It's a very cute utopian idea that we can just designate people to go to specific cases. That's impossible. A mental health case can easily escalate to one where cops would need to be. And if they aren't there to begin with, then what?

Cops aren't trained to be mental health professionals or counselors, they're regular men and women (HUMAN), they can judge a situation and act accordingly. If they think someone else should be called for the job, then by all means.

Just sad that people fail to see that good that cops actually have been doing. Like any situation thought, people will only find the negatives.

I think there's a real problem poor quality cops, not to say bad cops, there are those too. The 'good' cops get no where near the amount of training that they need to deal with the day to day reality of being in physical conflict with people and it's no wonder they use excessive force, they feel overly threatened because they lack skill! I personally think you have to deal effectively and quickly with bad cops, we need justice to be swift and frankly cops need to be held to a higher standard than the public, but we also need to increase the quality of cops and that means more funding.

The places which the police are defunded usually had the most crimes right now. Do consider that before shouting the very people that prevent crime. (most of the time)
