Should i buy the game

I feel like the only reason to buy the game now is to experiment with java development or to play with mods. I find that playing the base game is kinda underwhelming and I repeatedly saw myself not finishing worlds and still creating new ones whenever I would load up the game. I feel like Fortnite is the new minecraft
