Bedrock or Java Edition?

Does anyone know what Bedrock is coded on? I wonder if the language has anything to do with how well it runs. Also I wonder if it will ever be possible to mod it (probably not since it will lead to the mess of spaghetti code that is minecraft Java, but one can hope)
