Describe 2
President Hoover was tasked with dealing with the crash of the stock market, he believed that "prosperity is just around the corner" and was widely criticized for being a 'do nothing' president. This was because in the early stages of the depression he didnt do anything and because he was republican and believed in laisse faire which is where businesses were left to do business without being interrupted. another problem face by hoover was that people needed government funding to support the workers and businesses but as he was republican hoover was opposed to this idea and didnt act upon it, this lost Hoover popularity.
Effects
The New Deal affected American lives in some major ways, it all stemmed from Franklin. D. Roosevelts main priorities which were, Get America back to work Protect savings Provide relief for those in need and Get agriculture profitable again. These were very popular policies and gained FDR popularity, as a result of this he won the election and got to work fixing America.
The first change was creating bank holidays in which banks were inspected thoroughly and if the banks were not up to federal standard they would be shut. This helped people have trust in banks again and stopped people keeping large sums of money in their houses and as a result boosted the economy as money was being moved. This helped banks be able to fund businesses which could pay citizens, and this helped the population get back on their feet.
The economy act was the next change and it cut government jobs 15% in order to be able to afford to pay the homeless people an overall sum of $1bn to help them get back to work, this helped them get back to work as they could buy food and pay for housing and then become presentable and get a job.
The third change was the beer act which allowed the legal production and sale of alcohol in the United States as a result of this, morale among citizens was greater and the average persons living conditions were slowly rising again which was a big thing as people were living in shanty towns called Hoovervilles aptly named so as a result of hoovers do nothing attitude
Roosevelt had a group of people called the brain trust who were smart people who had respect and trust for FDR. this brain group helped Roosevelt make the right decisions for the country and as a result of this his approval ratings were extremely high
FDR also made Alphabet agencies agencies with names always abbreviated for they were long and convoluted, these agencies worked to get America back in action such as the FCA (the Farmers Credit Administration
