Hello. I've been playing league of legends since season 2, and even if my knowledge of the game is pretty vast I know how hard it is to start right now. The game is full of new stuff, new champs every now and then, updates every week. It's pretty hard to keep up honestly.

For starters, play with friends. You must have some that play league and if so, go play with him, they will teach you the basics as you play with them.
Try to play with every champ! There's free ones every week. Don't be shy and try them all out. There's more than 140 champs! Eventually you'll find a champion that will stick with you.
Lanes! This is really important, after playing with some champions you'll see that some are restricted to some lanes. See what lane works best for you.
Watch youtube videos explaining champions and etc. It's the best way to find how a champion works. Also I recommend watching LS coaching on Twitch. He's very good at what he does.
And last, try to have fun. League is full of salty players, so try not to be one :p
