Last year I actually went to Japan and I have to say, for any one nervous of going because you don't speak or read the language, go anyway. I got along with just using a translator app for signs and a lot of people do speak or read english and we even ran into people who spoke french with us! Obviously I can't attest to what kind of experience you'd have on your own trip, but mine was amazing and I'd love to go again. With the historical sights and festivals it's like a whole other world than my own Eastern Canada. I would suggest though if you wanna do any outdoor exploring my god bring a good pair of string hiking boots. They saved my feet when we went to the Inari Shrine and didn't realize we were literally climbing a mountain.
