RE: what do you think of reddit

Reddit is massive. I generally have somewhat negative thoughts on it, but not to the point of avoiding it entirely. I think a lot of the larger parts of the site are full of a culture and type of person I'm not a fan of. I find it's not as easy to speak comfortably as on 4chan. The upvote/downvote system also has unhealthy psychological effects, and the way the replies get sorted by votes also changes things in a bad way. On 4chan the posts are shown in order, no one cares who you are or how many internet points you have. It makes the discussion more real. However, being able to find really specific subreddits is valuable. While 4chan has /g/ for technology and /v/ for video games, Reddit has stuff like /r/linux_gaming, which both combines the two and is very specific. I think for this reason Reddit, or a similar site of its type with niche user-made communities, will remain useful for a long time to come. I would stay away from the front page and the more popular areas, though. There's a lot of low quality discussion and dumb jokes.
