#321 I wanted to be a Neurosurgeon more than I wanted air to breathe.
However, as hard as I tried in college to pass Calculus, I just couldn't. I took the class 4 different times. I had great tutors also. I had a couple Engineering students once as tutors. One tutor was a Physics major. No matter how hard they all tried to help me understand this foreign language called Calculus, I just could not grasp it.
One Calculus professor never wore shoes, not even in the winter. He had long hair down to his waist. About 45 years old. Big hippy. Wore ripped jeans. The first day of class he said if you didn't get all ?A"s in High School Algebra, you will fail this class. A big bunch of kids got up and left. Well I got all ?A"s in Algebra, so I stayed. He wrote and talked so fast, I could never get a question in. So after 4 weeks, I dropped his class.
Another Calculus class I had, had 300 students. First day of class we were sitting waiting for the professor. Right before class was to start, this little Chinese kid who looked about 10 years old walked in the room. Everybody kinda looked over and thought, wow that's probably one of those genius kids who go to college very early. Wrong. He was the professor and could not speak a word of English. I knew I'd never make it through that Calculus class. Dropped that one too.
My College Advisor was the nicest older British woman, who was the Head of the Chemistry department at my University. She said in my Junior year that if I could not pass Calculus, I would not get into medical school. As sweet as she was, I knew she was right.
Broke my heart.
