I use Premiere exclusively and it's the most accessible of the two softwares considered to be "industry standard" (Avid and Premiere). Final Cut is really easy to pick up if you're on Mac and Sony Vegas is also easy if you're on PC, and if you decide to move up to Premiere eventually Sony Vegas makes a good stepping stone. In terms of free software, DaVinci Resolve is definitely the best but I would look into Vegas as well and make a decision for yourself.
Added benefit of Premiere however is compatibility with After Effects, Photoshop, and Audition but it has a slightly higher learning curve than Vegas
