Most Disgusting food you've ever tasted?

I will allow myself to read the question a bit loosely and say ?surstrmming. This is a Swedish delicacy that for many is the highlight of the year (I can't imagine why). It is fermented herring, fish that has basically been rotting for a long time. The smell is absolutely the worst you can imagine and then some. It's texture is gross and the look of it is awful. And when I say that the smell is the worst imaginable I am not kidding. I have never never smelled durian fruit but I imagine that durian smells good in comparison.

It is served on bread with potatoes, onions and sour cream.

I have for the most part of my life tried to muster enough courage to try it and some five years ago I finally did it, it will not happen again. The taste was awful but of course nowhere near as bad as the smell indicates. The reason for me adding it here is that the total experience is so awful that I believe it to be the worst food available.

I'm not sure if it is true but I have read that a swede living in Germany was evicted from his flat for opening a can.
