NFTs - Hype or the future of proprietary content

I do not own any as of yet, interested tho but not sure how I would profit on it atm. Since they are not possible to split, each NFT holds one or more items and it's those who cary the value of the NFT, no?

If so you need to be able to buy something cheap now which will increase in value over time but still don't change anything in its own characteristics?
