It's not the tool, it's how you use it. Unless you're going for something very specific that only a certain engine can do, you're better off going with whatever is cheap and easy to start with. Yes there's a lot of garbage made with Unity, but that's incompetence from people who just want to make a quick buck, there are also plenty of great Unity games made by people with originality, passion, talent and skill. That's what sets any game apart from the rest.
