I want this to be a more honest discussion about gun rights based on the intentions of the 'Founding Fathers', their lack of foresight into the weaponry and issues of today. I think more attention should be paid to the "well-regulated militia" text. That is the underpinning for the right to bear arms, not just to defend yourself on a personal level.
Exact 2nd Amendment:
"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Former Chief Justice Warren Burger called the modern interpretation of the second amendment one of the "greatest legal frauds" of the US.
Discuss. Remain civil. Only facts and interpretations of the text.
