It depends on your preference, but I’m gonna go and say subtitled.

Anime in Japanese is very well done. Japanese voice actors are experienced and good at what they do. They capture the characters in the anime perfectly for the most part (because sometimes they really, really don’t.) Most importantly though, this is the origin language— I find it awkward and just plain weird to watch in any other language.

in dub, voices don’t fit, the voice actors are just bad (with a few exceptions) and the overall quality just seems so downgraded. Some things get lost in translation in a way that doesn’t happen in sub. Since in dub they need the translation to fit the mouth movement, they make changes to dialogue which often ruin aspects of characters’ communications. They’re also likely to cut out references to Japanese culture because it doesn’t fit.

Of course, if you find it insufferable and difficult to keep up with subtitles, go for dubs. No one is gonna make fun of you or shame you for it. It really just depends on your preference. Shy
