Do people even pay attention to storytelling in games anymore?

Oh 100%. Nowadays I'm not sinking all my time into multiplayer games trying to get as good as I possibly can and instead popping on a singleplayer game every so often that I can just take my time and relax in, which usually means the story is important since there's no complex inputs to keep you engaged.
