Can you work fully remote as a Creative Director in Graphic Design?

I ask this as a Design Director working fully remote for a leading global design agency. I have met many graphic designers who work fully remote and a handful of more senior positions but never a CD. I guess most places want you to mentor other designers in person, however many companies are doing away with physical workplaces as has mine so perhaps there will be no choice.
