They sweep it under the table. Security costs money. If data is breached and word gets out, they know their market value for their service will tank.

So they basically don't really care?

They do care. It's just that they don't necessarily care about the end users, that's the developers that do. The big cheeses are the ones that only care about the company from an economic perspective.
