Summary
"Seen is an interactive story game set in high school where you play as Mark Blythe, a high school student who fell in love with the new, fellow student, Nicole Tyler. It's not just your ordinary interactive story game, because it's a platform for interactive story games! Anyone can make their own chat stories! One ending? Sure. Multiple choices with a branching storyline? No problemo."
So, I recently got Seen, a game by Polychroma Games which is quite simply one of the best games that you can get on the Android app store. Not only is this game incredibly original, but it gets you emotionally hooked. With its interesting layout that is synonymous to messaging apps, you're put in a first person view that has you texting to the game's AI. Due to its familiar nature and friendly AI, you constantly feel that you're using your texting app to have a conversation with a friend. There are three different aspects of this game, and I will go over them in three separate catagories, of course.
Story
There are two different "bundled" stories with the game. One is considered to be the main story, which is about a high school love story. The conversations are deep and realistic, and you feel like you are actually texting your friend. It was strange as once I turned off my phone after playing the story I always stopped and asked myself, "What is Nicole doing?", (Nicole is the name of the main character). Although it is very engrossing, the story is boring. It's a plain, sappy love story that isn't original and is weak. It's cliche-filled but to be honest, Nicole is quite realistic and distracts you from the lackluster plot.
Theother storyis titled "annie96 is typing...", which is a horrorstory. The way you get this is slightly different though, as there is a separate menu where you can get add-ons, and that is where it is located. Thankfully, you don't use real money in this game at all. No IAPs are present during this game at all, in fact, which is great. You get this story by watching videos or taking surveys to get coins, and you can use those coins to purchase not only "annie96" but other things that I will talk about later. "annie96 is typing" has the exact same aesthetic as the main story but as you know, this is horror-themed. It's based off of a Creepypasta of the same name, and it is also cliche-filled. I don't mind this as much though, because it was definitely intense and I felt as if I was put right into the main character's shoes, and quite frankly, I was terrified at times. It isn't exactly SCARY, (expect for one jumpscare that definitely got me), instead the story tends to have a creepy atmosphere. All-in-all, the stories are okay, and definitely entertaining.
8.5/10
Creation
Now comes the best part, (in my opinion), of this game. It's Little Big Planet meets texting. Using coins, as described above, you can purchase a story maker. Using this you can create your own stories about any topic you like. For all of you lonely people out there, you can use this to make your own hot girlfriend! ??
But seriously, using this story maker is like, well, making a Create Your Own Adventurebook. It's fun and allows you to take advantage of the amazing UI that's been given to you. Even better yet, if you sign up for Story World, (you only need an email), you can share your story with the world, allowing others to download it and play it in the game. You can also do the same with others' stories as well, and you can get a constant flow of stories made by weebs all about their waifus! Good stuff.
9.5/10
TL;DR
Seen is an incredibly original and engrossing game that puts you into a realistic conversation in the form of a chat through a messaging app. You can make and share stories, as well as download stories made by other people. If you have an Android device, get this game.
Combined Score: 9/10
