It is ironic, because against someone like Thanos... The Avengers is pretty much completely, utterly, pointless. Actually, the entire Marvel universe is kinda irrelevant to Thanos. Which is why this movie is either going to be as boring as the comic was or it is just going to mess it up completely by ruining every cool trait Thanos had.
