I'm not going to agree on this.
you rank up and gain experience by playing, sure, but you'll rank up only if you win, most of the time. SO, queuing with your friends and/or a team will make you rank up faster. because if you are coordinated, you will have no problems actually winning.

a big plus is having someone who has a bigger knowledge of the game, so you learn from him.
