Variation 1: Doesn't look like anything special tbh, don't know what you'd use that kind of thing for except for maybe like a UI panel. I know you're trying to go simplistic, but as the design stands right now, you're better off with going minimal with only an outline or a solid background color.

Also doesn't look too great, maybe it's the thickness of the bars but it could just be that it's not a good idea in general.
Variation 3: Color choice is bad, also suffers from the same flaw as Variation 1.

All in all,I've seen worse, but I have definitely also seen better.

EDIT: The version in your post above this oneis a little bit better but suffers from the same flaw as Variation 2.
